Less than three years after linking parishes, St. Joseph the Worker and Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic churches have also linked their weekly bulletins, and it’s an impressive new eight-page publication.
Bathed in a royal purple of Lent, the cover of the March 16 edition includes drawings of the two church buildings on either side of a photographed sculpture of Jesus with his welcoming arms outstretched.
Not only does color celebrate the season, it also helps differentiate the individual projects and programs and schedules at each of the two facilities. St. Joe’s events are generally listed in orange while Immaculate Heart is represented by blue.
Making it happen!
IMH secretary Sara Pascarella contributed to the creation of the new bulletin, as did Julie Eggert, the executive assistant at SJW, although no one person is named as editor.
On page 6, the bulletin clearly lists the liturgical and clerical staffs of both parishes, with the ever-energetic Rev. Dan O’Hara overseeing the linked parishes.
Deacons Nick Alvaro and Steve Manzene are credited with helming programming and visitation, respectively, while William Olon is listed as business manager and Micki Bliss as adult faith formation minister.
The IMH staff includes Amy Wojcikowski, Sister Rose Marie Caravaglio, Terry Lacy, Carol Hartmann, Sara Pascarella dn Diane Pare.
The SJW staff includes Julie Eggert, Jennifer Woodburn and Gina Fortunato.
The bulletin also features a complete list of lectors, Eucharistic ministers, altar servers and greeters for each of six weekend Masses.
After the Rev. Charlie Major retired as St. Joe’s pastor on May 31, 2011, the village church linked up with Galeville’s Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Galeville.

Ecumenism in action!
In their March 16 bulletin, the linked Catholic communities list the current needs at their respective food pantries. Mary’s Pantry also extends a sincere “thank-you” to the Salina Town Hall Seniors and to the Liverpool First Presbyterian Church for their recent donations. Now that’s ecumenism in action!

JGB to unveil plans
Speaking of First Street, you can get an inkling of what JGB Properties plans to build on the basin block along Lower First and South Willow Street, when JGB’s Christine Stevens shares the company’s latest architectural drawings with the village planning board at 7 p.m., Monday, March 24, at the Village Hall, 310 Sycamore St.
JGB’s mixed-use development could entail construct ion of three separate buildings, variously housing condominiums or apartments with retail or service businesses as storefront tenants. Should be exciting!
