For the second boys indoor track and field meet of the winter, the format changed – but the local success did not.
Fayetteville-Manlius, with 49 points, and Jamesville-DeWitt, with 47 points, claimed the second and third spots, respectively, at Wednesday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena, the pair only trailing Liverpool, who finished on top with 79 points.
As if that wasn’t enough, East Syracuse-Minoa and Christian Brothers Academy also reached the top 10, as the Spartans earned 26 points for ninth place and the Brothers, with 20 points, slid into 10th place.
Back from competing at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon, F-M’s Bryce Millar won the 1,000-meter run in two minutes, 39.10 seconds, while teammate Paul Billinson (2:49.53) finished third.
The Hornets were also victorious in the 4×400 relay, where Ed Cheatham, Adam Rahim, Hamza Elhabbal and Dan Satterly finished in 3:44.94, comfortably ahead of second-place Jordan-Elbridge (3:49.19). Also, Andrew Berge, Peter Ryan, Adam Hunt and Riley Hughes got second place in the 4×800 relay in 8:39.38, with West Genesee (8:32.91) prevailing.
J-D’s Zach Liebmann led his side, winning the pole vault as he cleared 13 feet 6 inches, a full two feet ahead of a field that included F-M’s Justin Jones, who was third by clearing 11’3, and ESM’s Caiden Moynihan, who cleared 10’6″ for fourth place. Before that, Liebmann took third place in the 55-meter dash in 6.87 seconds.
Liebmann’s teammate, Will Cote, also emerged victorious, in the triple jump, where his best attempt of 40 feet 4 inches beat Cicero-North Syracuse’s Morgan Austen (40’1″) by three inches.
The Red Rams saw Rob Murphy rise to second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.64 seconds, just behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s Pete Girardi (8.29 seconds),with Murphy adding a second-place high jump of 5’6″ behind Corcoran’s Charles Stokes (6’2″). Isaac Tupper finished sixth in the mile in 4:44.77.
CBA earned half of its points when Jack Brower, in the 600-meter run, crossed the line in 1:26.65, knocking off a pair of local rivals as F-M’s Kyle Barber was second, in 1:27.80, and ESM’s Jake Barker grabbed third place in 1:29.27. The Brothers’ Connor Agnew threw the shot put 43’8″ and finished third.
ESM’s Jesse Perrone earned third place in the 3,200-meter run in 9:58.83 as Tom Grayer got to third in the long jump, going 19’6 1/2″, with Jeremy McGrath (19’3 1/4″) in fifth place and Cote (19 feet) in sixth. McGrath was fifth in 8.99 seconds behind Liebmann in the 55 hurdles, and Cheatham (9.11 seconds) edged F-M teammate Kyle Harbour (9.13 seconds) for sixth place.
