not about to let Auburn end its domination of the CNY Counties League.
Kanoza’s pair of titles provided a foundation for the Wildcats as it defeated the Maroons 83-79 Wednesday night to remain undefeated and move to 8-0 on the season with just one meet against visiting Baldwinsville next Tuesday night.
In a hard-fought 200-yard individual medley, Kanoza posted a time of two minutes, 28.60 seconds, fending off Auburn’s Brigid Cotter (2:30.20) for first place. Then, in the 100 backstroke, Kanoza won again in a time of 1:05.13.
Meanwhile, Olivia Castro started out by helping Shannon Cahalan, Michaela Fisher and Victoria Lee beat Auburn, 2:00.78 to 2:03.72, in the 200 medley relay, this before Castro went out on her own and won the 50 freestyle in 25.09 seconds.
The 200 freestyle was close, too, but WG’s Sinead Guy, in 2:09.70, beat the Maroons’ Hannah Foster (2:10.15) by 0.35 seconds. Brianna Smith chimed in by edging Foster, 59.55 seconds to 59.67, in the 100 freestyle, while Ayla Yagan won the 100 butterfly in 1:11.33, leaving Auburn’s Catherine Moore (1:16.90) more than five seconds behind.
Erin Dowler was second (1:13.45) to Cotter (1:12.44) in the 100 breaststroke, with Gabby Shuron second in the 500 freestyle in 6:10.59. Auburn swept the 200 freestyle (1:49.09) and 400 freestyle (4:09.10) relays, but could not catch up.
