Baldwinsville’s boys soccer team charges into Tuesday night’s showdown with Fayetteville-Manlius riding a five-game win streak and playing a lot better than the Hornets, who had lost three of four following a 9-0 start.
First, the Bees ended September in a strong manner – which it did, toying with Central Square last Monday night at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium as it earned a 5-1 victory over the Red Hawks.
The key was a dominant first half where B’ville sprinted ahead 3-0. As a result, it could absorb a goal by Central Square’s Andrew Hendrix in the second half and still breeze through the rest of the night, adding to its margin.
Connor Lunduski, with two goals and one assist, and Jake Gentile, who also scored twice, led the Bees’ attack. Jerome Goodridge picked up his first goal of the season as Evan Ingersoll, Erik Ferrari and Steve Keegan joined Lunduski in the assist column.
Still at home Thursday night, B’ville met Auburn, honoring its senior players and then going out and putting together one of its best all-around efforts of the season, rolling past the Maroons 8-1.
B’ville took 23 shots during the night, and seemed to get angry when Auburn’s Mike Carberry notched a first-half goal, which kept things reasonable as the Bees only led 3-1 at the break.
More production followed, especially from Gentile, who managed a three-goal hat trick as Lunduski put up a goal and two assists, with Connor Ross and Jason Ekure each matching Lunduski’s two-assist output. Alex Pompo scored twice, with Nick Gates and Ryan Mulligan also finding the net and Ingersoll also getting an assist.
Right after that Tuesday trip to F-M, B’ville plays its last regular-season home game against Oswego next Thursday night.
