Amy Mann and Fritz Koennecke have been elected to the Cazenovia Village Board of Trustees.
Tuesday’s results were too close to call from on-site poll results so the candidates had to wait until 10 a.m. Wednesday morning for the Madison County Board of Elections to count the 21 absentee ballots.
The Final results came in with Amy Mann at 226; Fritz Koennecke at 205 and Peggy Van Arnam at 198. The results were officially certified by the Madison County Board of Elections at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Cazenovia Mayor Kurt Wheeler, who ran unopposed for reelection finished the election with 283 votes.
Incumbents Amy Mann and Peggy Van Arnam squared off against challenger Fritz Koennecke, the outgoing president of the Cazenovia Board of Education.
When the polls closed at 9 p.m. Tuesday night at the American Legion on Chenango Street, 342 total voters had cast ballots. The vote counts at that time were: Amy Mann — 217; Fritz Koennecke — 191; Peggy Van Arnam — 185. There were also two write-in votes for other people.
According to the Madison County Board of Elections, there are 21 absentee ballots.
With the difference between Koennecke and Van Arnam being only six votes at poll closing, the winner would be determined by the absentee ballots.
“Well, it’s hard to say anything yet, but I’m happy people voted for me and we’ll see how the absentee ballots turn out,” Koennecke said Tuesday night.
Mann, who at 217 votes has a 26-vote lead over Koennecke and therefore cannot be beaten with only 19 absentee ballots to count, was definitely reelected for a third term.
“I’m thrilled with the confidence the community has shown in me and I look forward to getting back to work,” she said.
Wheeler, who ran unopposed, said, “I think the village is moving in a very positive direction and I look forward to two more years to continue the work we have begun.”
He said he was “delighted” that Mann, the deputy mayor, will remain on the board, and that whatever the outcome of the absentee ballot count between Koennecke and Van Arnam, “both are outstanding public servants.”
