Six girls from the Skaneateles girls track and field team found that they had to cram all of their activities in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet into a single day.
Heavy rains that inundated Middletown High School forced a complete cancellation of last Friday’s events, forcing everything to take place on Saturday in both the Division II (small school) and Division I (large school) portions.
The Lakers’ young 4×100 relay quartet of junior Taylor Woodruff and freshmen Katelyn Ellison, Amanda Wetmore and Laurel Parker, finished second in their heat.
With a time of 50.87 seconds, Skanetaeles shaved 0.04 seconds off the school record it set on May 30 at the Section III state qualifier. That was good for eighth place in Division II, with Elmira-Notre Dame winning in 49.65 seconds.
Early in the morning, freshman Caitlyn Neal made a strong showing in the 3,000-meter run. Her time of 10 minutes, 24.80 seconds was best among ninth-graders, putting her in fifth place among Division II runners, and 13th overall. Canton’s Laura Pierce won in 10:00.21.
Junior Madeline Adams took part in the 1,500-meter run, where she posted 4:54.86, nearly matching her qualifying effort of 4:54.11 and taking ninth place in Division II, where Bronxville’s Meredith Rizzo (4:34.97) did best.
