When they got together for a key OHSL Liberty division meet Wednesday afternoon, the Marcellus and Westhill/Bishop Ludden track and field teams both ended up happy.
In the girls meet, Rachel Garn’s sweep of the distance running events helped the Mustangs prevail 83-58, but it was Westhill/Ludden, led by Corey Wilkinson, taking the boys meet 88-53.
By the time she was done in the girls meet, Garn had run 800 meters in 2:39.3, covered 1,500 meters in 5:22.7 and beaten the field in the 3,000-meter run in 11:43.2, one of three different Mustangs with multiple wins.
Abbie Fallon was victorious in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds, and followed it up by going 13 feet 9 inches to win the long jump. Zoe Higgins emerged with a first-place time of 18.1 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and also took the 400 hurdles in 1:13.4.
Eliza Bell claimed the 200-meter dash in 28.7 seconds. Haley Randall, Emma Blystone, Nellie Ramsden and Shannon Twombly took first in the 4×100 relay (56.1 seconds) as Alex Kinsella went 28’3” and prevailed in the triple jump. Johanna Sylcox won the shot put, heaving it 32’7”.
On Westhill/Ludden’s side, Mary Kate Washburn earned first place in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.4 and cleared 7 feet to win the pole vault. Erin Christensen took the high jump (5 feet) as Kayla Wild threw the discus 78’4”. Christensen, Emily Washburn, Molly Clark and Caroline Coates worked together and took the 4×800 relay in 10:26.4.
Moving to the boys meet, Corey Wilkinson won a tight 100 sprint over teammate Antoine Montgomery, though both finished in 11.4 seconds. And Wilkinson again dominated the throwing events, with a 47-foot shot put toss and a winning discus throw of 147’5”.
Montgomery did win the triple jump, going 38’4”, while Christian St. Amour took the 200 (23.3 seconds) and 400 (54.9 seconds) sprints, teaming with Montgomery, Wilkinson and Mike Crisalli to win the 4×100 in 45.1 seconds.
Casey Bunce, who won the 800 in 2:04.4, and Xavier Fleurinor, victorious in the 110 high hurdles (17.0 seconds), combined with St. Amour and Peter Guy for a 4×400 win in 3:51.7. Jordan Roland cleared 5’8” in the high jump and Vincenzo Carr won the mile in 5:01.4.
Amid all this, Marcellus standout Ryan Manahan did take the 3,200-meter run in 10:19.1, while Justin Garn was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.3. Garn, Manahan, David Stopen and Tristen Duger prevailed in the 4×800 (9:03.0) as Dan O’Connell went 19’1” in the long jump and Mike Abbott topped 8 feet to win the pole vault.
Jordan-Elbridge split last Tuesday’s meet with Skaneateles, the Eagles winning 74-67 on the girls side but falling to the Lakers 95-45 in the girls meet.
A key for the J-E boys was winning two of the three relays. Dylan Whittico, Nate Hollis, Jake Patterson and Bill DiRenzo combined to take the 4×800 (8:54.9), and the Eagles got the clinching points in the 4×400 when Austin Whittico joined DiRenzo, Patterson and Dylan Whittico to outlast Skaneateles, 3:37.4 to 3:39 flat, in a tense 4×400 final.
Dylan Whittico got a rare double by winning the 100-meter dash (11.3 seconds) and 800-meter run (2:10.1), while Jack Gugel swept the mile (5:12.3) and 3,200-meter run (11:22.5).
DiRenzo got his own double by running the 200 in 24.1 seconds and edging the Lakers’ Patrick Biver in the 400 sprint, though both finished in 51.9 seconds. Tyler May won both throwing events, tossing the shot put 43 feet 8 inches and the discus 114 feet 5 inches.
Micah Quigley took second (104’9”) in the discus, with Nick Parkolap second in the triple jump by going 35’5” and Austin Whittico recording a second-place long jump of 17’4”.
In the girls meet, J-E’s Danielle Clark swept the throwing events, with a top shot put toss of 28’4” and a winning discus throw of 79’ ½”. Julie Hines claimed both the 100 (13.3 seconds) and 200 (26.8 seconds) sprints and teamed with Brianna Byrnes, Brittany Harris and Emily Weichert to get first place in the 4×400 relay in 4:23.8.
