Capping what has been a successful college career, Cazenovia High School graduate Kiley Evans soared past the 1,000-career point mark in her senior season at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.
Evans reached this milestone on Jan. 28, during the Pioneers’ 62-44 victory over Bryant. The 1,000th point came on a 17-foot jumper, part of a special night where Evans made 11 of 14 field-goal attempts en route to 28 points overall.
Entering this week, Sacred Heart is 18-7, 10-3 in the Northeast Conference and in contention for an NCAA Tournament bid.
Evans is a large part of that effort, averaging 12.4 points (second on the team), 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Her season-best total was 29 points in a Dec. 20 victory over Lehigh, and she’s gone over 20 points four times in 2012-13.
A four-sport star at Cazenovia (she also ran cross country, played golf and lacrosse), Evans led Cazenovia to the 2009 Section III Class B-1 title and was named Central New York Player of the Year.
Then, at Sacred Heart, Evans was an All-NEC Rookie Selection in 2009-10, where as a freshman she scored 20 or more points three times, including 24 in games against Harvard and Binghamton. For the year, she put up 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds a game.
After a solid sophomore campaign where she averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, Evans averaged 4.5 points per game as a junior, in 2011-12, as Sacred Heart won the NEC tournament and advanced to the NCAA championships, where it lost in the first round to Georgia Tech.
