Annie Peterson and the Baldwinsville girls bowling team achieved, by far, it biggest win of the season and, in doing so, halted a long streak from the Auburn Maroons.
The Bees scored 2.5 points, to Auburn’s half-point, in Thursday’s showdown at Thunderbird Lanes, the first time the Maroons had lost after claiming 31 consecutive matches.
To spring to the top of the standings, Peterson had to lead the way, and she did so. With games of 222, 219 and 214, Peterson worked her way to a three-game total of 655.
In support, Elizabeth Blume managed a 576 series, with a 241 high game. Britni Flask got a 569 set as Taeler Kuss, shooting a high game of 225, ended up with a 562 series. Danielle Feocco (599 series, 231 high game) and Kaylee Fallatt (577 series, 214 high game) led Auburn’s efforts.
It was a terrific boys match, too, with B’ville falling to Auburn 2-1. Delsean Griffith had a 249 game in his 635 set, while Frank Mento added a 621 series and Tyler Watchus got a 612 series that included a 228 high game.
To prevail, the Maroons needed big games from Jake Clark, who notched a 267 on his way to a three-game total of 694, and Jason Fowler, whose 694 series included a 256 high game.
Never Peterson as sharp as she was in last Thursday afternoon’s 3-0 sweep over Fayetteville-Manlius at Thunderbird. With games of 269 and 265, plus a 212 game, Peterson recorded a 746 series, setting a new season mark for herself, and inspiring her teammates to big efforts, too.
Kuss earned a three-game total of 630, a steady performance with no game higher than 225, while Blume parlayed a 211 high game into a 593 series as Tricia Miller, with a 583 series, led the Hornets.
Meanwhile, Mento led the B’ville boys to its own 2-1 win over F-M, shooting a 702 series that included a high game of 247. William Clifford contributed a 629 set and 240 high game as, for the Hornets, Chris Prestia produced a 615 series.
