Once again, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls indoor track and field team proved far too difficult to catch, though Jamesville-DeWitt did one of the best efforts in trying.
The Hornets amassed 90 points to pull away from the field in Wednesday’s George Constantino Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena. As for the Red Rams, it had 49 points, claiming third place, just two behind Liverpool (51 points) in the runner-up spot.
Of F-M’s 90 points, 62 of them came in runs of 600 meters or longer. That included a 1-2 finish in the 1,000-meter run, where Katie Brislin pulled away to win in 3:01.04 and Jillian Fanning (3:04.74) settled into the runner-up spot.
Mary Barger, in 4:53.36, fended off Marcellus’ Rachel Garn (4:55.02) to win the 1,500-meter run, while Alana Pearl comfortably prevailed in the 3,000-meter run in 10:19.64, more than 10 seconds ahead of the field as Annika Avery (10:49.55) earned third place.
Olivia Ryan, third in the 600-meter run (1:41.87), and Michelle Duffy, fifth (1:44.97) in that same race, both ran legs for the winning Hornets side in the 4×800 relay, joining Duffy and Jessica Howe for a top time of 9:53.06.
Also in the 4×800, J-D’s quartet of Emilee Carpenter, Laura Wengert, Samantha Clemons and Rachel Fairbanks were second in 9:56.59, while East Syracuse-Minoa saw Juliette Miller, Maria Miner, Brittany Kubecka and Natalie Marra gain fifth place in 10:43.29.
F-M got a win in the triple jump as Christabel Ezidiegwu posted a best leap of 34 feet 3 ¼ inches, enough to hold off Cicero-North Syracuse’s Javielle Fanizzi (33’11”) and the field.
Ezidiegwu ran to third place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.70 seconds as, in the 4×400 relay, Marri Ryu, Christine Lavoie, Mikayla Ruthig and Meghan Kincaid were second (4:25.96), well off the fast pace that Liverpool (4:17.93) would set. Anna Perrotti was fifth (44.93 seconds) in the 300-meter dash as the Hornets were fifth (1:55.85) in the 4×200 relay.
J-D had its great moments, too, including the long jump, where Sierra Vasiliou flew 16’11 ¾”, nearly a foot better than Phoenix’s Haylie Virginia, to earn that title.
In the shot put, Vasiliou’s toss of 32’7 ½” put her second, trailing only Nottingham’s Shania Santorelli-Hanson (34’7 ¼”), while Fairbanks contended in the 600, getting second place in 1:39.83 as West Genesee’s Laura Leff (1:39.83) prevailed.
For the Red Rams, Ally Fox raced to third in the 55-meter dash (7.64 seconds) and had a fourth-place time of 44 seconds flat in the 300 sprint.
ESM’s best finish was in the high jump, where Nina Zesky cleared exactly 5 feet, putting her third behind Virginia and Baldwinsville’s Emily Soeder (5’1”).
Patrece Martin claimed fifth in the triple jump with 31’9 ¾”, while teammate Taylor-Rae Danforth was sixth in the pole vault and 55-meter hurdles, and Carpenter took sixth in the 1,500. CBA had Maire Kate McGlynn grab sixth place in the 1,000 in 3:16.50.
