Emma Ford and Kaitlyn Neal led the way for the Skaneateles girls indoor track and field team in both the final days of 2012 and the first days of 2013.
In the latter instance, the Lakers had a strong showing during last Thursday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, where with 25 points it eased into sixth place in a 22-team field. Fayetteville-Manlius claimed the title with 98 points.
Ford, by herself, got 14 of those points. In the 300-meter dash, Ford ran in the last of eight sections and crossed the line in 43.51 seconds, just enough to hold off Baldwinsville’s Sarah Klaben, who had posted 43.58 seconds two races before. Ford also had a fourth-place high jump clearance of 4 feet 9 inches.
Neal would pick up four points as she grabbed fourth place in the 1,500-meter run, the freshman cracking the five-minute mark as she finished in 4:58.23. Later, Neal added a sixth-place time of 3:17.22 in the 1,000-meter run, while Jenn DeRosa took seventh (11:50.96) in the 3,000-meter run.
Megan Molnar contended in the pole vault, where she cleared 7 feet with fewer misses than Phoenix’s Destiny Teel and settled into third place behind West Genesee’s Abby Uczen (9’6”) and Liverpool’s Angela Kulpa (9’).
