When the Baldwinsville boys swim team won each of the first two races in Wednesday’s meet at Auburn, things looked bright.
But the Maroons quickly snuffed out the Bees’ hopes, taking each of the next seven races, which led to a 90-77 defeat as B’ville fell to 1-2 on the season.
John Guardino, Pat Salerno, Eric Johnson and Kyle Atkinson teamed up to give the Bees a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay in one minute, 53.66 seconds. As an immediate follow-up, John Sidorakis won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.07.
The fun ended there, Auburn seeing six different swimmers – Collin Mitchell, Nick Radell, Jeremy Sliss, Luke Wilczek, Jacob Whiting and Andrew Bauso – win the next six individual events, with four of them (Sliss, Wilczek, Mitchell and Radell) teaming to take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.73.
Not until Guardino claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.19 did the Bees get another first-place finish, and by then it was too late. Atkinson, Salerno, Sidorakis and Johnson worked together for 3:54.61 and a win in the closing 400 freestyle relay.
B’ville now heads to a 15-day mix of rest and practice during the holiday break, its next meet not until Jan. 3, when it hosts neighbor and rival Liverpool at the Baker High School pool.
