At home in Lysander throughout the opening portion of the 2012-13 season, the Baldwinsville ice hockey team had to, at some point, display its intentions to challenge for Division I supremacy.
That moment arrived in Tuesday night’s game against Fayetteville-Manlius. A sound game plan, both on offense and defense, and superb execution helped the Bees beat the Hornets 4-2.
It was a big reversal on both sides. Both had opened on Nov. 30, B’ville falling in overtime to Cazenovia 5-4 while F-M, fueled by Anthony Angello’s seven goals, had routed Central Square 10-1.
Knowing who it had to target, the Bees’ defense zeroed in on Angello and never let him get comfortable, holding the junior without a point.
Meanwhile, the Bees’ attack remained steady, gaining a 2-0 lead through one period and answering in the second frame when F-M’s Mateo Capriotti and Tom Doucet put in goals.
By the end of that period, Parker Ferrigan had notched two goals and one assist, and B’ville had maintained a two-goal margin. And it stayed that way through a scoreless third period, too, as goaltender Josh Pinard completed a night where he stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced.
To help Ferrigan, Matt Zandri and Matt Herman notched their own goals. The Bees’ depth showed here, too, as Luke McCaffrey, Matt Colclough, Charlie Bertrand, Ronnie May and Matt Abbott each joined Ferrigan in the assist column.
