For the second year in a row, Skaneateles CSD has been ranked fifth in the entire Upstate New York area — and second in the Syracuse region — in the academic rankings study released by Buffalo Business First magazine last week.
This year’s rankings were based on a 192-part formula, analyzing four years of standardized test data from third grade through the senior year of high school for 430 public school districts in the 48 counties of Upstate New York.
Buffalo Business First has issued annual performance ratings for Western New York schools since 1992 using raw data from the New York State Education Department. It started issuing performance ratings for Upstate New York in 2011.
This year was the same as last year for Skaneateles: ranked No. 5 in the entire Upstate area, outranked by Pittsford, Fayetteville-Manlius, Brighton and Williamsville. The district ranked No. 2 in the Syracuse region, behind only Fayetteville-Manlius.
The other districts in the top five for the Syracuse area were Cazenovia, Westhill and Jamesville-DeWitt, with Marcellus placing sixth.
