Having moved its home meets to Henninger High School’s pool, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls swim team welcomed its two closest neighbors for back-to-back meets, where the visitors won by equal margins.
It started with Christian Brothers Academy meeting the Hornets Tuesday night, and with its trio of individual stars, the Brothers prevailed by a score of 98-78.
Summer Schmitt and Maggie Fletcher both won a pair of events. Schmitt tore through the 200 freestyle in 1:56.78, and then went to the 100 butterfly, where she again put up a quick time of 57.31 seconds to finish well out in front.
As for Fletcher, she worked in the sprints, needing just 22.52 seconds to beat the field in the 50 freestyle and also winning the 100 freestyle in 55.35 seconds.
Kathryn Coughlin, on her own, was first in the 200 individual medley (2:20.87), right after helping Courtney Finkbeiner, Mary Frances Ierlan and Mary Spizuoco claim the 200 medley relay. Annie Fletcher was victorious in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.70.
On F-M’s side, Malina Gambocarto edged Olivia Ryan, 1:17.01 to 1:18.35, in the 100 backstroke, while Gabby Hall took the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.82.
Caroline Wilson pushed her way to second place in the 50 and 100 free behind Maggie Fletcher. Julie Barger, second in the 200 and 500 freestyle, teamed with Morgan Way, Emma Simonson and Grace Garver as the Hornets took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:21.69.
Then it was Jamesville-DeWitt’s turn to meet the Hornets on Thursday, and an early blitz helped the Red Rams prevail by the same 98-78 margin that CBA did.
Katie Coyne worked her way to first place in the 200 freestyle (2:03.09) and also won the 500 freestyle (5:27.84). Molly Hair, second in the 500 free, claimed the 50 freestyle in 26.60 seconds and teamed with Alden Coyne, Erin Lumia and Hayley Schultz to win the 200 freestyle relay.
On her own, Alden Coyne beat the field in the 200 IM (2:29.17), just before Taylor Cook had an impressive diving performance, picking up 212.90 points, while teammate Jessica Rieger (177.55 points) sneaked into second place.
Schultz won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.72 and Meghan Parker edged Marissa Potamianos, 1:01.31 to 1:01.51, in the 100 freestyle. Erin Noble would add a 100 breaststroke victory in 1:21.21.
Barger gave the Hornets an individual title when she swam the 100 backstroke in 1:14.39. She also helped Way, Ryan and Wilson take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.14, just before Way, joined by Garver, Anna Hrbac and Caroline Mortelitti, swam the 400 freestyle relay in 4:22.33.
J-D had just taken a 102-81 defeat to West Genesee on Wednesday night. Katie Coyne still won twice, swimming the 200 IM in a swift 2:17.89 and adding a 100 butterfly title in 1:01.21.
Alden Coyne won the 500 freestyle in 5:44.24 after helping Hair, Katie Coyne and Sophia Farchione earn first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.99.
WG prevailed with double wins from Olivia Castro (200 and 100 freestyle) and Brianna Smith (50 freestyle and 100 backstroke), plus two of three relay titles.
