Given a chance to rest after the hard-fought 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sept. 8, the Baldwinsville boys soccer team returned to action late last week and quickly returned to winning form, too.
In a non-league game at Fulton last Thursday night, the Bees used an early surge to take control and rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Red Raiders.
Connor Lunduski and Nick Gates anchored B’ville’s attack, helping his side to a 2-0 halftime lead. Lunduski hurt Fulton with a pair of goals, while Gates got the other tally and assisted on one of Lunduski’s goals. Connor Ross also had an assist.
From start to finish, the Bees claimed most of the possession, continually putting the Red Raiders in a defensive mode and finishing with 14 shots to Fulton’s two.
Back home on Saturday to take on West Genesee, the Bees prolonged the Wildcats’ miserable start, steadily working its way to a 2-0 shutout of the Wildcats.
Both sides shared the common bond of seeing top players depart for Syracuse University – Alex Bono for the Bees, Stefanos Stamoulacatos for the Wildcats) – but that was where similarities ended.
It was clear that WG has to this point, come up with no adequate replacement for Stamoulacatos, and B’ville tried to exploit this throughout the game, though a solid Wildcat defense sometimes made for a rougher experience.
Still, Gentile and Ryan Mulligan put in the goals to account for the winning margin, while Lunduski and Evan Ingersoll earned assists. B’ville held the Wildcats to just three shots.
A day earlier, that local SU connection was established again as the Orange beat UNLV 1-0 for its fifth straight win, the team’s longest win streak since 2005. Again, Bono earned the shutout, and it was Stamoulacatos earning the game’s lone goal.
At 4-1-1 on the season, the current B’ville edition has a chance to build a longer win streak in games this week against Auburn and Central Square.
