Just add up the points from Monday night’s girls volleyball match, and Liverpool will have more than Cicero-North Syracuse.
That’s not how it works, though, and by claiming most of the points when it really mattered, the Northstars beat the Warriors in five sets at the LHS gymnasium.
Still after its first win of the regular season after facing two tough opening foes (Baldwinsville and Skaneateles), Liverpool quickly got into a close first set, but C-NS pulled it out 25-21 to gain the early edge.
Unfazed, Liverpool roared far ahead in the second set and evened the match, 25-15. Then the third set repeated the pattern of the first as the Northstars again held on, this time for a 25-22 decision.
Trailing a second time, the Warriors rallied a second time, earning a victory in the fourth set by a 25-16 margin, nearly identical to the second set.
That set up a tense final set, and it was C-NS once more pulling through in the latter stages, claiming the match in another 25-22 verdict.
For the visitors, Lindsey Silfer led the way with 19 assists, six digs, four kills and three blocks. Amy Van Hoven served up six aces, adding four kills and six digs, while Elizabeth Miles earned seven kills, three blocks and seven digs.
Adrianna Patzer contributed five kills and five blocks, while Cara Gannett had four kills and five blocks. Tiffany Ryan led the defensive side with 13 digs. Hanna Narbaugh also had four kills, adding three blocks.
On Liverpool’s side, Alexis Hasper and Katie Rowell shared front-line duties, as Hasper earned 18 kills and Rowell added 14 kills, plus 10 digs. Meg Stonebarger fed both of them with 32 assists, adding five kills as Amanda Lauricella matched Rowell’s total of 10 digs.
