A Lafayette man has been charged with reckless endangerment after pointing a laser light at the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Air-1 helicopter last night.
Sheriff’s deputies charged Thomas Kurtz, 42, of 2591 Naughton Road, with second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor. He is accused of shining a green laser beam at the helicopter several times as it flew over the town of Lafayette at around 9:30 p.m.
Flight crew members spotted the light and were able to locate its source, and directed ground units to Kurtz’s home, deputies said.
Kurtz is scheduled to appear in town of Lafayette court on Aug. 29.
