The Lysander Town Board recently hired Testone, Marshall & Discenza CPAs, an independent consulting firm, to examine internal financial reporting, which includes assessing current controls over financial reporting, compliance with laws and regulations, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations to implement best practices. Officials anticipate the cost to be between $12,000 and $14,000. Hugh Kimball, a Lysander resident, expressed concern with the action as the town already has an on-staff comptroller and the supervisor is a former CPA. In addition, the state recently audited the town. Supervisor John Salisbury said the town had already found problems and felt the action would benefit the town as it will set needed guidelines.
