Tanner Whiteman, who starred in three sports at Cazenovia High School, is headed for Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., near Chicago where he will continue his basketball career.
A 6-5 shooting guard, Whiteman played varsity basketball for three seasons with the Lakers. He saved his best work for his senior year, where he led the team in scoring and hit 25 3-pointers as Cazenovia won the OHSL Liberty American division regular-season title and finished 14-5 overall. Whiteman was an All-League first-team selection and played in the Zebra Classic.
Whiteman also played baseball at Cazenovia, helping the Lakers to its first-ever Section III title when it claimed the Class B-2 championship in late May.
Back in the fall, Whiteman played quarterback and captained the Lakers’ football team, too, as it went 8-1 and won the Class B East regular-season championship.
At Benedictine, an NCAA Division III school in the Northern Athletics Conference, Whiteman joins an Eagles squad that went 13-14 a season ago, though that included a 10-6 conference record and a perfect 8-0 mark at home against league foes.
