DeWitt Police set up a perimeter around a Tulipwood Lane home today, following a 911 call from a woman who said she had a gun and knife, and would detonate a bomb within a matter of minutes, police said.
DeWitt Police were dispatched at around 8 a.m. to the 6300 block of Tulipwood Lane in response to a 911 call from the woman, who has not been identified. After setting up a perimeter around the residence, police notified neighbors to stay in their homes.
DeWitt Police made contact with the resident by phone, and after less than an hour were able to convince her to come out of her home and surrender, police said.
Officers found a black suitcase behind the home, which the Onondaga County bomb unit found to be non-explosive. Upon searching the home, officers recovered the “gun” the woman claimed to have, which was fake, police said.
The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program for evaluation.
Manlius and East Syracuse police and Rural/Metro Medical Services also responded. The incident remains under investigation.
