During the June 11 meeting of the Cazenovia Town Board, councilors scheduled a public hearing to introduce Local Law No. 1 regarding alternative septic systems within the town for the evening of July 9.
The proposed law, which relates to Chapter 130 regarding sewers and sewage disposal in the Cazenovia Town Code, will permit residents to use additional alternative systems if they so choose.
“This will give the town the opportunity to use the newest technologies that are available now in dealing with septic issues,” said Cazenovia Town Supervisor Ralph Monforte.
A recently-completed State Environmental Quality Review deemed the project would not have negative impacts on the surrounding environment.
The town is acting as the lead agency, and in hopes of further educating residents and receiving feedback, will hold the public hearing at 7:30 p.m. July 9 in the Cazenovia Town Offices, located at 7 Albany St.
In other board news:
-Councilors unanimously approved a resolution extending the completion date of the Route 20 Scenic Byway Grant to 2013. Board members cited busy schedules amid ongoing discussions for not having already completed the grant process, which aims at preserving area green spaces and farmlands.
-Cazenovia Town Court Clerks Shea Palmer and Mary Williams were authorized to attend annual training sessions July 24 and 25 at SUNY Potsdam.
-Supervisor Monforte reported that both the Cazenovia Lake water quality report and the lake-resident survey completed by Syracuse University Whitman School students are now available on the town’s website townofcazenovia.org.
-Councilor Kristi Andersen reported the board has begun to examine possible grant opportunities that would allow for the inclusion of sidewalks up to the Sean Googin Memorial Sports Complex.
