Mill Run Park in the village of Manlius was flooded with 34 families this afternoon, as Enders Road kindergarten students, parents and grandparents weeded, mulched and planted flowers throughout the entrance.
In all, about 115 kids and adults pitched in to beautify the park.
“It’s a wonderful park, but it’s kind of a hidden treasure — not a lot of people know about it,” said Diane Lewis, the teacher who coordinated the effort. “So I talked to my students, and we came up with some ideas of how we could make the park more inviting.”
Starting in February, the students in Lewis’ morning and afternoon classes collected 4,549 bottles and cans in order to pay for the gardening supplies needed for the project.
To see the work of Lewis’ students, take East Seneca Street to Mill Street (near Pavone’s), and follow that road to the Mill Run Park entrance.
