Lysander officials appointed Eugene Dinsmoor to the position of Lysander Highway Superintendent during the May 14 board meeting. Filling a position vacated by Bruce Reeves, who retired at the end of April, Dinsmoor will receive a prorated salary of $55,000 and will have to run for election in November.
“I am very impressed with Eugene and look forward to working with him,” said Councilor James Hickey.
Lysander approves mixed use law
After holding a public hearing, Lysander officials approved NY RPT Law 485-A, which allows an eight-year exemption on property taxes (plus four additional years of reduced taxes on a sliding scale) for improvements made to the residential portion of a mixed-use property. The law is designed to revitalize development in urban areas and does not affect the taxpayer because without the potential investment and improvement, there are limited taxes to collect.
“This really is not a tax reduction in the town of Lysander,” Supervisor John Salisbury said. “Upper floors won’t see full assessment until year 13.”
Baldwinsville, Van Buren and Onondaga County officials have already passed this law; Baldwinsville Central School District officials are currently reviewing it. With this law, municipalities do not lose any tax revenue.
