A 23-year-old man escaped injury after the home he was sleeping in caught fire in Elbridge Saturday afternoon.
Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh says Corey Chiasson was at his Fikes Road home when he heard fire alarms. The porch of the home was on fire, and he called 911.
Twenty fire departments responded to the fire, which spread from the porch to the home. It took about an hour and a half to extinguish the fire.
The American Red Cross is helping Chiasson and his family, who were not home at the time of the fire. Chiasson was able to get the family pets out safely, as well.
Onondaga County fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
Firefighters from numerous departments fought the blaze including those from Elbridge, Jordan, Memphis, Warners, Camillus, Fairmount, Marcellus, Sennett, Howlett Hill, Onondaga Hill, Mottville, Plainville, Skaneateles, Navaino, Amber, Borodino, Throop, Meridian and Weedsport.
No firefighters were hurt in fighting the blaze, either.
