A season-long trend continued for Christian Brothers Academy and Jamesville-DeWitt when the two sides battled for the Onondaga High School League tournament title Wednesday at Woodcrest Golf Club.
While the Red Rams’ Molly Hair snared the individual title, it was the Brothers claiming team honors, its score of 387 topping J-D’s total of 399 by 12 shots.
Hair, whose season included a 29 at Butternut Creek, put up an 18-hole total of 86, which gave her a three-shot cushion over teammate Victoria Roney and CBA’s Emilee Oakes.
Where CBA won it was with its second and third players. Ellie Baumgartner and Kim Jung-Hye each shot 92, while J-D’s third player, Alanna Jones, had 109. Kaleigh Sweeney (114) and Elizabeth Kip (117) rounded out the Brothers’ roster, while J-D saw Chelsea Clark post a 114.
East Syracuse-Minoa finished with 473, as Kristina Hartung and Erin Marcy set the pace for the Spartans, each of them shooting 111. Jenna Wright-Rihinen had 121, with Jessica Fralicks (130) and Sarah Hiltbrand (139) trailing.
Before all this, CBA, on its home course at Drumlins, turned back two more OHSL challenges in last Monday’s three-way match against Skaneateles and Chittenango.
The Brothers shot 180, to the Lakers’ 208 and the Bears’ 258. Oakes led with a 39, while Baumgartner posted a 45. Kim had a 47, with Kip shooting a 49 and Mary Ierlen adding a 50.
Jamesville-DeWitt won a 149-167 head-to-head match against Westhill at Butternut Creek, pushed there again by Hair, who shot a 33 as Roney added a 36.
Still at home a day later, the Red Rams ripped past Cazenovia 152-176. This time around, Hali Greenhouse came to the forefront, shooting a 34, while Roney remained steady with a 37.
East Syracuse-Minoa, in another three-way match, shot 231, tying Cazenovia, but behind Marcellus, who won with 214.
As for Fayetteville-Manlius, it knows that reclaiming the Section III title will not be easy, especially with Auburn in the way. The Maroons beat the Hornets for the second time this season, 181-189, last Tuesday at Green Lakes.
Natalie Powers stepped up for the Hornets, shooting a 44. Carly Kidd had a 46, while Briana Winslow posted a 49 and Kayla Pallotta shot a 50. On Auburn’s side, Larissa Carter again led the way, shooting a 40, while Maggie Flurschutz (43) and Alayna Slayton (46) closely followed and set up a cushion F-M could not overcome.
