Asbestos abatement at the former Steak & Sundae in Eastwood has been finished as businesses prepare to move into the renovated building.
It’s the latest push in revitalizing the main intersection in the city’s neighborhood. Asbestos needed to be removed from the building in order to continue renovations. The building, on the northeast corner of James Street and Midler Avenue, will soon house businesses that have opened shop on the opposite corner of the intersection.
Those three buildings — a two-story building that houses Landmark Development, Trade in Cash Pawn Shop, Working Class Tattoo and Grooves Salon, a rental home, and the buildings of Extreme Pizza Kitchen and Fifi’s Ice Cream — are slated to be demolished in order to make room for a Kinney Drugs.
Vince, an employee of Landmark Construction and Development who declined to give his last name, says it’s too early to tell when the businesses will be able to move into the old Steak & Sundae location. Workers are now moving on to renovating and rehabbing other parts of that building, he said.
