With league titles already behind them, the Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt track and field teams continued to roll over opposition in a pair of weekend meets.
For the Hornets, that meant going to last Friday’s Oneida Invitational, where on the girls side F-M got 110 points to easily outdistance 20 other sides, including runner-up Rome Free Academy (82 points).
On the oval, the Hornets won every race from 200 meters upward. In the 200 itself, Heather Zazzara finished in 26.65 seconds to claim the title as Christine Lavoie (28.50 second) was fifth.
Heather Martin tore to victory in the 400-meter dash, winning in a season-best 57.43 seconds as Olivia Ryan took second in 1:01.14. Then Katie Sischo and Hannah Smith went 1-2 in the 800-meter run as Sischo, in 2:17.84, beat Smith by 0.66 seconds.
Jillian Fanning needed a Section III season-best 4:43.44 to hold off Marcellus’ Rachel Garn (who set a school record with 4:46.14) in the 1,500-meter run, while Alana Pearl went to first place in the 3,000-meter run in 10:19.55, ahead of Michelle Duffy (10:25.88) in second place.
In the 4×400 relay, Martin, Zazzara, Sischo and Ryan earned the title in 4:10.98, nearly 10 seconds ahead of the field, while in the 4×800 Martin, Sischo, Emily McGurrin and Mary Barger finished in 9:34.77 for another easy win. F-M also was second in the 4×100 as Zazzara, Lavoie, Jordan Noble and Sarah Olick-Sutphen finished in 52.02 seconds.
Savannah Pidkaminy earned points in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet 6 inches for fifth place after a seventh in the discus. Anna Castro cleared 4’10” for fifth place in the high jump. Noble took fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.28 seconds.
A tight boys meet saw F-M battle to the last event before, with 71 points, it edged Utica Proctor by a single point for team honors amid a 24-team field. RFA was third with 60 points.
Nick Ryan pulled away from the field and won the 3,200-meter run in 9:04.18, the best sectional time of the spring by more than 10 seconds as Matt Deyo (9:44.66) took fourth place. Bryce Millar stepped up and won the mile in 4:21.36, with Ben Thomas third in 4:28.01.
Langston Lightcap broke the two-minute mark and won the 800 in 1:58.92, with Charlie Beeler (2:00.20) sliding into third place. Lightcap, Beeler, Ryan and Said Shakuri produced a 4×400 relay title in 3:33.36 as the Hornets also were fourth (8:19.59) in the 4×800.
Kyle Harbour gave the Hornets a fourth-place finish in the pentathlon with 2,287 points. Konrad Nemiec gained fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.36) and Aaron Blitz was sixth in the 400 in 53.08 seconds. Blitz, Sean Bright, Said Shakuri and Ryan Greer were fourth in the 4×100 in 46.95 seconds.
J-D took its turn on Saturday, at the Weedsport Invitational, where the girls Red Rams won with 163 points, more than double the total of runner-up Westmoreland (75 points), and the J-D boys tied Skaneateles at the top with 90 points.
Maggie Fuller won the girls high jump, clearing 5 feet. Danielle Doss took the pole vault with a clearance of 8’6” as Katy Pieri (8 feet) was third. Noelle Novakowski won the 100 hurdles in 17.76 seconds as she and Amanda Lee (18.10 seconds) earned a 1-2 finish.
Patrece Martin was second (30’11 ½”) in the triple jump as Tangela Hightower (28’10”) and Victoria Nandal were second and third, respectively, in the shot put. Brooke DeRoberts gained second in the discus (82’4”) and Jesenia Haynes finished fourth.
Doss and Fuller teamed with Rachel Fairbanks and Laura Wengert to win the 4×800 in 10:47.39, with the Rams adding a second in the 4×400 (4:25.86). Fairbanks, on her own, edged Wengert, 2:34.26 to 2:34.38, in the 800, and added a title in the 1,500 in 4:58.97, again leaving Wengert (5:04.27) in the runner-up spot.
Ally Fox, in the 400 sprint, earned the title in 1:00.67 and added a third in the 100 sprint, with Liz Pieri second in the 200 (27.83 seconds) and Fuller third in the 400 hurdles in 1:14.64.
In the boys meet, J-D’s Will Sterriker won the 110 high hurdles in 16.75 seconds and followed it up by taking 59.31 seconds to prevail in the 400 hurdles. Also, Sterriker teamed with Zach Liebmann, Marquis Drummond and Navale Taylor for a win in the 4×100 in 46.59 seconds.
The Rams’ 4×800 relay quartet of Isaac Tupper, Alex Wilmot, Sam Dye and Austin Philleo earned another title in 9:00.03, with Dye helping the Rams’ 1,600 sprint medley relay side get to third place in 3:58.66.
Peters swept the throwing events, heaving the discus 131’1” as he also threw the shot put 46’4” to prevail as David Barletta was fourth. Liebmann continued to excel in the pole vault, winning with a 12-foot clearance, with no one else better than 10’6”.
