As the weather cleared up and dried out, the Sknaeateles softball team resumed action, still with a chance to get into the post-season.
In last Wednesday’s non-league game against Syracuse West, the Lakers trailed early, but cranked up its bats in time for a 9-2 victory over the combined Corcoran/Fowler entry.
West scored twice in the top of the first inning, all it would get against Skaneateles pitcher Chelsea Hamilton, who limited them to five hits and struck out 11.
The Lakers moved out in front with three runs in the bottom of the third inning and tacked on five more runs in the ensuing two frames. Hamilton, Jackie Leslie and Madison Singler each had two RBIs, with Ali Tomlinson and Kristin Didio driving in one run apiece. Tomlinson also scored three runs as she, along with Hamilton, Leslie and Erica Nye, all got two hits.
Skaneateles carried that momentum into Thursday’s game against Hannibal, where everyone contributed to a 6-0 shutout of the Warriors.
It started with Hamilton, who did not surrender a walk in a complete-game effort that included six strikeouts and just four hits allowed.
Then the offense kicked in, getting three runs in the first inning and two runs in the fourth, plus an insurance run in the sixth driven in by Emily Call on the way to 12 hits.
Ali Tomlinson led the way, going three-for-three. Hamilton scored twice as she, along with Leslie and Nye, each managed two hits. Five different players – Call, Hamilton, Didio, Sarah Tomlinson and Molly Kerstetter – got credit for an RBI.
