The Skaneateles boys track and field team would rise up in a big way during Saturday’s Weedsport Invitational, where with 90 points it tied Class A power Jamesville-DeWitt for team honors.
Twice, the Lakers prevailed as Khiary Gale again beat the field in the triple jump, going 41’10”, while Merritt joined Matt Clymer, Nick Simmons and Ethan Johanns for a title in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 3:49.15.
Merritt, on his own, was second (11.62 seconds) to Cortland’s Colin Walsh (11.50 seconds) in the 100-meter dash. James Hackler earned second in the 800-meter run in 2:13.07, only trailing New York Mills’ Dan Bruce (2:11.49).
Clymer, Johanns, Hackler and Matt Delasin were second (9:13.02) to J-D (9:00.03) in the 4×800 relay. The Lakers were also fourth in the 4×100 (48.19 seconds) and 4×400 (3:50.76) relays.
In field events, Sam Goodell recorded a second-place long jump of 18’1”, with Gayle (17’11 ½”) in third place. Carson Schwab, clearing 10’6”, earned second in the pole vault, with Dan Sakal (9’6”) settling into fourth place.
Patrick Biver was fifth (55.96 seconds) in the 400-meter dash, while Dan Wolfanger took sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.03 seconds. Nick Hook cleared 5’2” for fifth in the high jump. Nate Molnar (39 feet) beat Hunter Dickinson (37’7 ½”) for sixth in the shot put, but Dickinson earned sixth in the discus with 104’6”.
