With the CNY Counties League National division portion of its schedule winding down, West Genesee’s track and field team got wildly varying results from Tuesday’s home meets with Corcoran.
On the girls side, it was no problem for the Wildcats, who prevailed 100-32. But the WG boys side took a 78-63 defeat to the Cougars.
Paige Copeland starred in the girls meet, claiming the 100-meter hurdles in 17.1 seconds and adding a 400 hurdles title in 1:10.1. Abby Kastick also won twice, running 1,500 meters in 5:16.3 and going 3,000 meters in 11:14.8, while Lindsey Weaver won the 800-meter run in 2:33.6.
Kelly Powell, who was victorious in the 400-meter dash (1:01.1), teamed with Copeland, Amy Hannahan and Alyssa Zeman to take the 4×400 relay in 4:17.9.
Hannahan joined Olivia Kastick, Alycia Andolina and Nicole Paone as WG ran the 4×800 in 11:24.5, while Alison Iles, Emily Barriere, Emily Frazee and Melissa Bakowski took the 4×100 relay in 53.2 seconds.
Moving to field events, Bakowski was first in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches. Brianna Richardson went 32’5 ½” in the triple jump, while Maureen McInerney claimed the shot put with a 31-foot toss.
The boys meet was quite competitive, as WG’s Luke Potash swept the sprints. He ran 100 meters in 11.0 seconds, took the 200-meter dash in 23.6 seconds and, in the 400 sprint, got in front and won in 52 seconds flat. Peter Richardson again dominated the 400 hurdles, winning in a swift 57.7 seconds.
Offering support, Martin Leff won the mile in 4:39.9 and the 3,200-meter run in 10:16.2, while Jack Erhard took the 800 in 2:10.7. Leff, Erhard, Logan McNauty and Mike Lannon worked together and ran the 4×800 relay in 9:57.4.
Corcoran dominated the field events, though, only allowing WG to prevail once, David Martin throwing the shot put 43’8”, and the Cougars also won two of three relays. Marshall Church led Corcoran with titles in the 110 high hurdles (16.4 seconds) and long jump.
