Restoration of the 122-year old structure located at 1 Forman St. in Cazenovia is finally ready to begin.
At a ceremony outside of Carpenter’s Barn on May 4, local officials and members of the Carpenter’s Barn Committee discussed the grants that have been received and thanked all involved on the project.
In attendance were Bill Magee, New York State Assemblyman; Kurt Wheeler, Village of Cazenovia Mayor; Amy Mann, Village of Cazenovia Deputy Mayor; Jean Egenhofer, Central Region Grants Representative from the NYS Office of Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; Lauren Lines, Acting Director of the Cazenovia Area Community Area Development Association; and Village Historian Ted Bartlett.
“I’m happy this very historic building is going be preserved, and be useful for the village, community and all who wish to utilize it. This is a great thing,” Magee said.
Project funding for the restoration has come from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, which provided a Strategic Investment Project Grant; the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, which awarded an Environmental Protection Fund Historic Preservation Grant; the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation provided a Rehabilitation Grant; and the village of Cazenovia will assist with in-kind services and project funding.
“This is a great example of a team project between numerous entities, state and local,” Wheeler said. “The Assembly … CACDA, the village of Cazenovia and CPF has been a great partnership. We’re excited about what the future holds for it. We don’t know yet what that will be, but it’s a beautiful building in a great spot, so we know there will be a valuable new use for it when it is done.”
