One more preliminary remained before the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams could focus on its annual pair of showdowns with Liverpool.
And the Northstars took care of both parts, beating West Genesee Wednesday afternoon. At Bragman Stadium, the C-NS girls flattened the Wildcats 105-36, while in Camillus the C-NS had a closer call, but still won by an 82-59 margin.
In the girls meet, Javielle Fanizzi emerged with wins in the 100-meter dash (12.9 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.4 seconds), with Mariah Thomson throwing the discus 100 feet 10 inches and tossing the shot put 36’10” to win there, too.
Katie Osborne took the long jump, going 15’7 ½”, with Jade Jenkins unleashing a top triple jump of 33’7 ½” and Shannon McCarthy clearing 5’2” to gain first place in the high jump.
On the oval, Justine Seliger won twice, claiming the 100 hurdles in 16.6 seconds and covering the 400 hurdles in 1:09.5. Maria LaMontagne went 4:59.9 in the 1,500-meter run as Jacqlynn Halstead beat the field in the 3,000-meter run in 10:50 flat.
In a sweep of the relays, Jenkins, Osborne, Fanizzi and McCarthy won the 4×100 in 51.8 seconds. Fanizzi also joined Marissa Colburn, Shannon Bausinger and Emily Tolbert in the 4×400 (4:18.2) as Katie Laris, Nicole Watterud, Emily Dolan and Taylor Parry went 9:57.2 in the 4×800.
The boys meet at West Genesee had a fair share of stars, too, including Frank Volino, who ran the 110 high hurdles in 16 seconds flat and held off Peter Richardson, 57.8 seconds to 58.1, in a terrific 400 hurdles duel.
Daquan Mathis went 42’9” to win the triple jump, this after a first-place long jump of 19’4”. Cameron Shaughnessy, by clearing 13 feet in the pole vault, fought off a spirited challenge from WG’s Peter James (11’6), while Donovan Kims won the shot put (45’10”) and Austin George went to first (125’10”) in the discus.
C-NS also went to the front in the 4×100 relay, where Shaughnessy, teaming with Shawn Webb, Avery Yarn and Mark Broughton, finished in 43.6 seconds.
