By the time it was back on the field late in the week, the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team was well-rested and ready to plunge into the latter half of its regular-season slate.
The Lakers, whose trip to Onondaga last Monday got snowed out, did not find it that much warmer for Thursday’s home game against the combined Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes side.
Still, Skaneateles handled it, beating the Gaelic Knights 13-3. Steadily, the Lakers gained a 5-2 edge before halftime, but wore down Ludden/Grimes in the second half.
Emma Ford and Carly Davis both topped the visitors by themselves, finishing with four goals apiece, while Nicole Beatson fed them with four assists. Shelby McNeilly and Alana Navaroli each scored twice, while Hannah Powers earned one goal and one assist. Maura Tierney also had an assist.
Two days later, the Lakers met LaFayette at Onondaga Community College’s turf, where a fast-paced battle unfolded – but Skaneateles got through it, earning a 15-12 victory over the Lancers.
No matter how productive it was, the Lakers could not get away from LaFayette, who lay within two, 8-6, at the half. The pace remained frantic, as Emily Peebles, with four goals, and Cassley Jackowski, with three goals and two assists, allowed the Lancers to stay within that close range.
Yet Skaneateles stayed in front, Beatson fueling the attack with a career-best six assists to go with her pair of goals. Often, Beatson’s passes went to McNeilly, who poured in six goals, or Navaroli, who got four goals and one assist. Davis scored twice and Powers earned the other goal.
Skaneateles will take a 7-2 record into a three-game homestand, spanned over seven days, that includes visits from Jordan-Elbridge, Homer and Cazenovia.
