Both of Baldwinsville’s track and field teams found a fair amount of success in Wednesday’s pair of meets against powerhouse Cicero-North Syracuse.
However, the Northstars prevailed on both ends, claiming an 81-60 decision on the boys side at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium and beating the Bees 96-45 at Bragman Stadium.
Just four days after squaring off in the John Arcaro Relays, B’ville and C-NS had another terrific battle in head-to-head action, with the hosts making some inroads.
Alec Peinkofer teamed with Josh Perez, Connor Ross and Chris Twichell as B’ville won the 4×800 relay in eight minutes, 46.1 seconds. And Peinkofer followed it up by going to the mile and earning first place in 4:41.5.
Andy Fleming won the 800-meter run in 2:06.5,and moved from there to the 4×400 relay, where he, along with Nate Wicks, Nick Walker and Matt Pond, tore to victory in 3:35.3.
Shay Sargeant nearly swept the sprints, as he claimed the 200-meter dash in 22.7 seconds and was a close second to C-NS’s Mark Broughton in the 100-meter dash, though both finished in 11.2 seconds.
But Sargeant also got first place in the long jump, going 19 feet 6 inches, one of two field events where the Bees prevailed. Pat McNamara had the other, as he threw the discus 115 feet.
In the girls meet, B’ville’s Gabby Jordan earned first place in the 100 in 12.8 seconds and Gina Carnovale claimed the 200 in 26.7 seconds.
B’ville also won two of the three relays. Jordan, Carnovale, Cierra Allen and Angelica Tomasello ran the 4×100 in 53.2 seconds, and in the 4×400 Sean Ivey, Jada Sargeant, Marissa Lathrop and Morgan Marshall earned first place in 4:20.9. For the Northstars, Katie Osborne (high jump, shot put) and Mariah Thomson (shot put, discus) both won twice.
On Saturday, the B’ville girls team went to Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational, where it picked up 38 points to take sixth place. Fayetteville-Manlius won with 145 points.
Allen contended in the 400 sprint, breaking the one-minute mark (59.84 seconds), but finishing second to F-M’s Heather Martin (59.30). Also, Allen teamed with Lathrop, Emily Soeder and Sarah Layton for third in the 4×400 relay in 4:23.47.
Carnovale, on her own, ran to third in the 200 in 27.27 seconds and fourth in the 100 sprint in 13.07 seconds, adding a sixth in the long jump, while Soeder cleared 5’1” for third place in the high jump.
Carlie McNamara had a fourth-place discus throw of 83’ 2” and also took seventh place in the shot put. Mia Bolton (11:37.26) and Kim Cushman (11:41.95) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.
