A Manlius restaurant has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the person or people who destroyed eight swan eggs in Manlius overnight Saturday.
Police say someone entered the Manlius Swan Pond late Saturday night and removed seven of the eggs, found later dropped or thrown by a wall outside Buffoon’s Bar in the village. One egg was left, but there was no heartbeat in the embryo.
Now, Bella Cigna restaurant is offering $1,000 reward for the person who can lead police to the suspect(s) in the case, as well as the arrest and conviction of that person.
“It’s the least we can do,” said Rick DeCuffa, co-owner of the restaurant nestled near the Swan Pond. “Most of the community is just devastated by this. We’re hoping the person can be brought to justice.”
DeCuffa says he, like most in the village, were excited to see the cygnets in the pond. They were the first that would have hatched in the village in eight years.
Anyone who may be interested in joining the restaurant owners in the reward can contact them at 682-3000.
The restaurant, Bella Cigna, means “Beautiful Swan” in Italian.
