No doubt, the scare that the Liverpool boys lacrosse team got April 14 at Marcellus, trailing in the fourth quarter before rallying late to win 9-7, had an immediate effect.
For when the Warriors returned to action last Tuesday night against Corcoran at LHS Stadium, it simply took over on both ends by the end of the first half and ripped past the Cougars 15-2.
Even as Corcoran, who had struggled to a 2-3 start, gained some early goals, Liverpool maintained its energy level. In the second quarter, that led to a 7-0 spurt that all but decided matters.
In fact, the Warriors shut out the Cougars in the last three periods, keeping the ball most of that time so that Dominick Madonna only had to make five saves.
On the offensive end, Scott Kershner had his best game yet, scoring six times and adding a pair of assists. In support, Logan Thomas had three goals, while Austin Hope had two goals and two assists.
Nick Kline chimed in with two goals and one assist. Jamie Kuppel helped with a goal and two assists as Peter Flood also converted.
Two nights later, the Warriors went to Central Square and won by that exact same 15-2 margin, not allowing a goal until the fourth quarter, by which point all the starters were on the bench.
To build that 15-0 edge in the first three periods, Liverpool turned to several sources. Matt Glowacki had a career-best four goals and two assists, with Kershner also scoring four times.
Hope had three goals and one assist, with Thomas managing two goals and two assists. Kline got a goal and two assists and Kuppel contributed one goal and one assist. Anthony Eno put up two assists as Peter Flood and Bryan Capone had one assist apiece.
On Saturday, Liverpool hosted Shaker (Section II) and made it eight wins in a row, blowing past the Blue Bison in a 15-5 decision.
Any doubt about the outcome got erased in a one-sided second quarter where the Warriors put up eight unanswered goals, building an 11-1 edge in the process.
In particular, Thomas and Glowacki hurt Shaker. Thomas outscored the Blue Bison by himself, with six goals and two assists, while Glowacki produced a career-best five goals and two assists. Hope scored twice, adding two assists as Eno and Colby Velazquez also scored. Kuppel, Peter Flood and Keahey Kendall added assists.
Liverpool was home Tuesday to take on Baldwinsville before a Friday trip east to play Rome Free Academy, who has blazed to its own 7-1 start.
