Jamesville-DeWitt’s girls track and field team had its first big test Friday when it went to Bragman Stadium (site of the state championship meet in June) for the ninth annual Cicero-North Syracuse Relays.
And the Red Rams picked up 56 points, earning third place in a 16-team field. Host C-NS won with 100 points, with Rush-Henrietta (66 points) claiming the runner-up spot.
Most of J-D’s points were earned in field events, including the pole vault, where Danielle Doss and Katy Pieri combined to clear 16 feet 6 inches and finish second to C-NS, who won with 17’.
Taylor Cook and Liz Pieri got second in the triple jump with total leaps of 62’ 2 ¼ “, with the Northstars again in the top spot. Maggie Fuller won the individual high jump, clearing 5’1”, and combined with McKenzie Kallquist for third place (9’5”) on the team side.
Also, Brooke DeRoberts and Tangela Hightower went 160’2” for third place in the discus. For the shot put, Hightower returned, helping Victoria Nandal to yet another third-place effort (58’5”) as Nandal was fourth among individuals with 30’3”.
J-D got to second place in the 1,600 sprint medley relay. Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri, Rachel Fairbanks and Noelle Novakowski put up a time of 4:29.01, with Rush-Henrietta (4:22.63) prevailing. Doss and Maggie Carpenter joined the Pieris as they took third in the 4×400 relay in 4:21.82.
Individually, East Syracuse-Minoa’s Amanda Wall won the individual triple jump, going 33’ 11 ¾ “, and added a second in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 11”. The Spartans also were sixth in the 4×400.
Moving to the boys end of the C-NS meet, J-D tied for seventh with 18 points, while ESM got 13 points for 11th place. Again, the host Northstars (92 points) claimed the top spot.
Koy Adams and Davis Elmore were third in the discus, with throws adding up to 214’ 7”. Dylan Volk and Navale Taylor rose to third in the triple jump by going 78’ 11” between them. In the 4×100 relay, Volk, Taylor, Marquis Drummond and Zach Liebmann took fourth place in 46.38 seconds. Liebmann, who cleared 11’6” in the pole vault, got fifth all by himself.
Most of ESM’s points came in the long jump, where Jeff McDuffie was second among individuals (21’ 9 ½”) and, with Tom Grayer, had a total of 39’ 5 ½” for another second-place effort. The Spartans were fourth in the mile relay, four times added up to 19:34.83, and added a sixth (3:56.51) in the 1,600 sprint medley.
