With the close April 7 defeat at West Genesee just behind them, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys lacrosse team quickly jumped back into winning gear.
The Hornets, who picked up the no. 13 spot in the first state Class A rankings of the season, had 12 goals in the first quarter alone in last Tuesday’s game at Utica Proctor, which ended with a 25-0 shutout of the Raiders.
This allowed almost everyone on the F-M roster to get a chance to play, though Kevin Lux still managed five goals and two assists before exiting. Ryan DaRin added a three-goal hat trick, plus an assist.
Dan Cahill, Clay Arnold, Erik Keller and Tom Losecco each scored twice, with Cahill and Keller also managing two assists. Jimmy Krizman had a goal and three assists as Ryan Simmons, David Ondrich, Swyer Dew, Josh Pulver, Bob Hall and Scott Chase also scored. Chase got a pair of assists.
It was much the same back home on Thursday afternoon as F-M took out Rome Free Academy 18-4, racing to a 12-3 edge by halftime and again getting most of the roster involved.
Six different players – Lux, Cahill, Alex Ferrar, Ryan DaRin, Jimmy Krizman and Luke Krizman – scored two goals apiece. Simmons and Kroy Arnold each got a goal and two assists, with Dew adding one goal and one assist. Keller and Joe DeSantis scored, too, as Hajduk and Andrake picked up assists.
To wrap up a 3-0 week, the Hornets hosted Baldwinsville on Saturday, wasting little time taking control and earning a 15-6 victory over the Bees.
F-M already had a 6-1 edge by the end of the first quarter, and would continue to add to the margin the rest of the way, led by Lux, whose six goals matched B’ville all by himself.
Krizman scored twice, adding three assists, while Klay Arnold managed three goals and one assist. Cahill and Ondrich each had two assists as Simmons, Hajduk, Andrake and Dew got single goals.
F-M’s girls lacrosse team, still plowing through a brutal early schedule, went to Liverpool last Tuesday night and paid for a poor first half in a 9-5 loss to the Warriors.
Liverpool, aided by three goals from both Mary Fadden and Andrea Flood, put F-M in an 8-3 deficit by halftime, something it could not overcome despite a late push. Cara Esposito, in defeat, scored twice, with Marri Ryu, Lindsay Trachtenberg and Grace Donahue landing one goal apiece.
Then Section V power Brighton showed up on Friday and beat the Hornets 18-5, tearing through an 11-0 first half before F-M could even get on the board.
Alex Murphy did have three goals and two assists in the late going. Trachtenberg and Donahue earned the other goals, while Ryu, McKenna Everding and Julie Neuberger each had one assist.
To make it even more difficult, F-M had to face Baldwinsville on Monday before back-to-back games against Central Square and Auburn. Meanwhile, the boys Hornets get Oswego and Corcoran before a Saturday non-league tilt with East Syracuse-Minoa.
