Officials from the Red Mill Inn addressed the village board Thursday, April 5, to discuss issues with Paper Mill Island events.
Having discussed the matters previously with the Baldwinsville Police Department’s Chief of Police, Dan Frigula of the Red Mill Inn said the facility often deals with trespassing and vandalism issues.
“[People] go out on the island, they have a good time then they come back intoxicated,” he said, adding concert-goers have left debris in the Red Mill Inn parking lot, urinated on the building and have gone into the hotel’s lobby looking for restrooms and have vomited inside the hotel. They have also dumped beer and soda on guests’ vehicles.
Fragula suggested, since the board was considering contract revisions for the venue, that the promoters be required to provide a little more security for the hotel and other businesses in the area.
“Realistically, we’re not benefitting from people staying overnight because there are a lot of locals coming to see concerts. It’s not like we’re seeing a big increase in stays; it’s more of a burden,” he said.
Rick Presley, head of the Paper Mill Island committee, said they would address the Red Mill Inn’s concerns at the next committee meeting and thanked them for bringing these issues to the board’s attention.
