The village of East Syracuse adopted their $4.9 million budget at a special meeting Friday.
The budget will keep taxes flat in the village at $13.50 per thousand for the fifth consecutive year, said mayor Danny Liedka.
“Every year I say it’s the most difficult budget and every year I prove myself wrong,” Liedka said at Friday’s meeting. “We’ve systematically down-sized the operations of the village.”
Services have dwindled budgets, but Liedka says keeping employee’s jobs stable is a top concern.
“The board is committed to keeping our folks working,” he said.
The tax levy, or the amount of the budget to be raised by taxes, has decreased year-over-year by 4 percent. The total levy this year will be $2,480,923. The overall budget is also down over 2011-12, just over 1 percent, or $52,553.
The police department’s budget saw a decrease of about 8 percent, or $66,853. The East Syracuse Fire Department’s budget increased $38,086, just over 6 percent.
The tax rate will remain at $13.50 per thousand, the same as it has been for five years. There is also a $1.20 per thousand rate for sewer taxes. That has also been flat for four years.
