Marcellus High School students will perform “Footloose” this Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the school’s Groeling Auditorium. Tickets for the performance are $5 for Thursday’s show, and $8 for the rest, and are available at the door.
The play is centered around the small-town life in Bomont, before Ren, a Chicago kid, arrives and breaks many a taboo. He helps bring dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a tragedy.
The play features classic 1980s anthems including “Holding Out For a Hero,” “Almost Paradise,” “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” and the title track, “Footloose.”
Tom Snow wrote the music with lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and the arrangements are presented through Rodgers & Hammerstein Theatricals. The play features 70 cast members, 30 crew members and 11 pit band members.
Ren McCormick is played by Joe Isgar, Reverend Shaw Moore is played by Sean Koloski, Ariel is played by Sarah Kelly, Rusty is played by Holly Grosholz, Willard is played by Josh Jarvi, Vi Moore is played by Adina Martin and Ethel McCormick is played by Alexandra Sheridan.
The musical is directed by Kristin Peenstra. Mike Cirmo directs the pit band, Brian Ackles directs vocals, Terry Hoey is the technical director and Kristie King is in charge of choreography.
