On Feb. 27 the Liverpool Central School District Board of Education appointed a new member to its ranks and – lo and behold! – the new guy is married to an employee of Liverpool High School!
A majority of the nine-member Liverpool Central School District Board of Education have ties to teachers and the United Liverpool Faculty Association which represents some 1,000 school employees.
DiMarco appointed
Prior to its regular semimonthly meeting, the board interviewed five candidates who volunteered to fill the seat vacated Jan. 26 by John Woloszyn. When the brief questioning concluded, the board appointed Steve DiMarco.
The CEO of Summit Automotive Group, DiMarco is married to Cathy DiMarco who works as a teacher aide in the Liverpool High School attendance office. She previously employed as the attendance secretary at Donlin Drive Elementary.
I don’t know the DiMarcos, but I’m sure they’re fine folks. There’s no denying their roots in the community. Steve is a 1975 graduate of LHS and later earned a master’s in business at Syracuse University.
Later at last week’s meeting, the proposed 2012-13 district budget was unveiled, revealing that costs are increasing primarily in the areas of the teachers’ retirement system, the employee retirement system, health care and labor.
Nick’s clips ‘The King’
My buddy, Randy “The King” Ingerson who lives in Liverpool up on Second Street, got himself a buzz cut not too long ago.
“Looks like you got a haircut,” I commented innocuously.
“Actually, I got ’em all cut,” he responded without missing a beat.
Good one, Randy!
Come to find out he gets trimmed at Nick’s Barbershop located next to the Colonial Laundromat, at 408 Oswego St.; 451-2887.
Randy likes the service at Nick’s where a haircut costs $14, and a hot-towel shave goes for $12. Seniors get clipped for a single sawbuck, and kids’ haircuts cost $11.
Nick’s Liverpool location is owned by Dan Carrino and staffed by barbers such as Dennis Smith, Steve “Skip” Chirico, Will Dyer and Rod “The Dougie” Torrance. Dan Gittino is the shop’s operations manager.

Music in Mattydale
Not many people realize it, but in the first half of the 20th century Upstate New York was a hotbed of old-time tunes and country music. From the Catskills to the Adirondacks, we made mountain music as good as that heard in the hollers of West Virginia.
Now the CNY Bluegrass Association is meeting and making music monthly (September through May) at the Mattydale Veterans of Foreign Wars lodge at 2000 Le Moyne Ave., just west of the Hollywood Theater. The guitars and banjos ring out at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 11, followed by a brief meeting at 2 p.m. and then more jamming.
