The month of March features not one, but two theater productions brought to the community by Baldwinsville organizations.
Both the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild and Baker High School will present shows this month, one of which opens this weekend at the Presbyterian Education Center at 64 Oswego St., B’ville. The Drunkard, “a coy and exaggerated play about the good, the bad and the besotted,” will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 2. Additional performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. March 3, 9, 10 and 17, at 3 p.m. March 11 and at 8 p.m. March 16. If you are looking for a slightly darker feature, check out Baker’s production of the musical Sweeney Todd, which tells the story of a barber and his murderous activities in London. This show premieres at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, and has additional performances at 7 p.m. March 9 and at 1 and 7 p.m. March 10 in the school auditorium. Due to its gruesome nature, the musical is rated PG-13 and may not be suitable for children. Tickets are $8, $10 and $12; call 638-6039.
Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild features actors, directors and producers from all over the region and is the oldest continually-performing non-professional community theater group in New York State. It also possesses the largest costume collection in the state and has presented a scholarship annually to area high school graduates since 1969.
