At the Jan. 23 meeting of the Cazenovia Board of Education, members discussed their 16 newly defined goals and approved the budget calendar for 2012-13 school year.
The board’s goals span seven subjects, including student achievement, community relations, fiscal management, administration polices and procedures, human resource management, facilities and technology.

Board members also discussed the upcoming budget process as well as how students and residents will be affected by the tax levy limit and cuts in state aid.
The most recent issue of the Cazenovia Central School District newsletter, The Blue and Gold — which was mailed to every household in the district — outlines the total of inflationary cost increases and answers frequently-asked questions. Along with the board’s regular monthly meetings, a Budget Work Session will be held on March 19. The budget will be finalized in April and then voted on by the community May 15.
In other board news
Burton Street Elementary School Principal Mary-Ann MacIntosh informed board members of the school’s recent nomination for the New York State Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in elementary education. Burton Street was one of just 19 schools in the state to receive the award. The elementary school had received the award once before in 2001.
—The internal coordinators of the Cazenovia High School accreditation team for Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools presented their recent progress to the board. After reading 3,000 comments, the team recently established a set of belief statements and a mission statement for the high school.
