The village of Manlius is one step closer to renovating its Fire Station No. 2, located at 4500 Pompey Center Road.
At its meeting Tuesday night the board approved the solicitation of an appraisal of the existing site as well as the design and schematics of “minimal” renovations to the station. The appraisal will cost no more than $2,000 and the design and schematics will cost $7,355. The renovations would reduce dampness, improve drainage, improve HVAC and add windows at an estimated cost of $191,000, according to a report submitted by Leif Kallquist of Holmes King Kallquist Associates, Architects LLP at the meeting. The renovations are one of four options considered by the board regarding Station No. 2.
Other options included:

Renovation and a 4,638 square-foot addition at a cost of just under $2.3 million.

Renovations and a 2,695 square-foot addition at a cost of about $1.4 million

A new 10,000-square-foot fire station for $2.7 million, plus the cost of the land on which to build.
The renovations are in response to health and safety concerns at the station including air quality.
Manlius Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin said, subsequent to the appraisal and completion of the design and schematics, the next step would be the creation of construction drawings and going to bid.
The board has already approved $55,000 for the design and schematics for improvements to Fire Station No. 1, located at 4 Stickley Drive, including the addition of two new vehicle bays and renovation of the existing structure.
“I am currently working with the village clerk to see if we can do budgeting for the interest and principal on both of these projects, as well as renovations to the Swan Pond, without an impact on the tax rate,” Serafin said. “It is my goal to have that happen.”
