Only an act of nature, it appears, could prove successful against the Skaneateles ice hockey team’s stifling defense, as it hasn’t allowed a regulation goal since giving up a pair to Clinton in a 3-2 victory back on Dec. 21.
Winter weather set in on Friday, postponing the Lakers’ match against CBA/J-D and leaving Skaneateles, with 18 points, one point behind Oswego in the tight race for Division II regular-season honors.
The Lakers’ shutout streak (not counting the shoot-out in the Duke Schneider Tournament final against Canandaigua on Jan. 7) continued last Tuesday night, at Whitesboro, where the Lakers fought past the Warriors 2-0.
Mitchell Jones scored in both the first and second periods to account for the entire Skaneateles offense. Jack Fabrizio, Jon Rogalia, Tyler Stanton and Brendan Major each had one assist.
Fabrizio, Stanton, Tyler Strods, Owen Kuhns and the rest of the Laker defenders kept Whitesboro from generating any kind of attack, limiting them to seven shots overall.
Aside from making up the snowed-out CBA/J-D game, the Lakers will take on defending state Division II champion Cazenovia Thursday night at the Morrisville State IcePlex, having beaten those other Lakers 4-2 on Dec. 13 at Allyn Arena.
