Keeping itself undefeated, the West Genesee boys swim team hosted Cicero-North Syracuse Wednesday night and improved to 3-0 with a 100-79 victory over the Northstars.
In one of the more highly-anticipated portions of the meet, Josh Byrne won his diving battle with C-NS’s Billy Werksman. Byrne finished with 263.6 points to Werksman’s 209.5, with Nate Bugin getting third place.
Long before that, WG took the lead when Joe Amedro, Ian Bushnell, Mike Gilheney and Jeff Hotaling claimed the 200 medley relay in 2:02.15. In the 400 freestyle relay, Bushnell joined Collin Zapisek, Mike O’Donnell and Louis Ciarla for another victory in a clocking of 3:30.60.
Individually, O’Donnell prevailed in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.25, while Collin Zapisek took the 200 individual medley (2:10.05) and Tyler Zapisek won the 50 freestyle in 23.05 seconds.
Jake Mullett, second in the 50 free (24.56 seconds) to Zapisek, turned around to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.38, while Mike Mellen (5:47.86) and Bohdan Arthymovych (6:06.62) went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle.
Ciarla rose to second in the 100 freestyle, edged by CNS’s Ricky Blackburn, 53.92 seconds to Blackburn’s 53.71, and also was third in the 200 free. Byrne, Arthymovych, Ken Brill and Tyler Halsey were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.31 as CNS (1:39.56) prevailed.
WG is home again next Wednesday for a key meet against Liverpool.
