A tractor-trailer accident closed portions of West Genesee Turnpike in Camillus on Monday.
A bit after 1 p.m, the driver of a Feher Rubbish Removal truck was turning right onto West Genesee Turnpike from Route 5 when the truck flipped onto its side, Camillus Police Chief Tom Winn said.
The truck was loaded with large pieces of scrap steel, which spilled across the eastbound lanes of West Genesee Turnpike. Police remained on scene for five hours as the scrap steel was removed and the tractor-trailer was turned upright.
The driver, Fred Kalin, of Liverpool, was not injured. He was ticketed for imprudent speed.
Police were assisted at the scene by WAVES, Camillus Fire Department, Department of Environmental Conservation spill response, the Sheriff’s Office, Camillus Highway Department and the New York State Police.
