The Syracuse Police Department is hoping a new push with technology will help solve the city’s 67 unsolved homicides.
The Cold Case Squad and Police Chief Frank Fowler unveiled the new section on their website, syracusepolice.org, where cold cases are listed in hopes of getting fresh, new tips related to the murders.
“As technology grows, it’s bringing us closer to maybe solving these crimes,” Fowler said.
The website includes an area where interested parties can submit anonymous tips to the police department.
“People have a level of comfort with striking keys on a typewriter over leaving voice on a voicemail,” Fowler said.
There are eight cases currently highlighted on the website, including the now 11-year-old case of homicide victim Jill-Lynn Euto, 18, who was found dead in her Syracuse apartment in 2001. It has been one of the more highlighted cases in Syracuse Police’s history. Fowler hopes the website will help to bring important tips in for each of the open cases.
“Every family, every loved one is entitled to closure,” he said. “There are real people attached to these victims of these homicides.”
